CURTAIN WALL



The curtain wall is a stoned wall to protect the inside of the castle. Walls were often connected by a series of towers or mural towers to add strength and provide for better defense of the ground outside the castle.

BAILEY


The bailey is a courtyard or open space surrounded by walls.The walls that make up the Bailey are also considered to be part of the Bailey. A castle could have several. Sometimes they were called the upper bailey and lower bailey or the west bailey and east bailey.

FLANKING TOWER

This is a flanking tower is a small tower projecting from a castle wall, or other fortified wall. Allows defenders to fire along the length of the wall. So it would be hard for the attack to work of outsiders.

WELL


A medieval well is a place where water is supplied. Every time it rains the well gets filled with water and i bucket is placed in the well to gather the source. The well is always outside so the rain water can enter in. They are built very deep to absorb enough water for the castle.

GATEHOUSE

The gatehouse is heave metal. It sometimes includes a draw bridge. If defenders get in they would trow rocks, hot sand, water, and oil at the defendants. The gate protects the people outside from getting in the kingdom.

OUTSIDE KITCHEN


A medieval outdoor kitchen. its where all the meals for the castles are made. its mainly away from the great hall. It was away from there to prevent a fire. Since the kitchen was away from the hall, food got cold faster. All the kitchen had was a stove and a fire place to prepare food. Also a place to store wine was add.

TURRET

The turret is a small part of the castles. Its a project vertically from the wall of the building. Its used to cover fire to the adjacent wall in the days of military. Its mainly use for a decorative purpose. the turret usually have a circle top. It may have a staircase but, its not higher than the rest of the castle.
